The girl and the date do and did exist, respectively, the rest is fiction.
It’s an old joke, but I thought it a good exercise for those of you with the more “sophisticated” tastes. READ CAREFULLY! I provided a translation.

Enjoy!
I’m not fond of lilies.
They won me a date with Alicia, actress-model, when I visited Barcelona! I’d been after her a long time.
We walked arm in arm through the dark streets, like in the movies! The pigeons flew from the ground, almost on cue. I turned to kiss her lovely face, a pigeon swooped down, pooped a whole toothpaste tube on my good pants while Alicia fell backwards into a fountain. Her skirt covered her head … and Victoria shared ALL her secrets!
“C’est la vie,” I said.
She slapped me. She thought I said, “Se la ví.” ***
***Spanish for “I saw it!”
What you say and what people think they hear (and any loss in the translation) can be rather important! So you really did go out with an actress-model in Spain or is Spain part of the fiction? 🙂
janet
Yes, I really DID go out with an actress-model in Barcelona. Her name really IS Alicia and I got to see her again after eight years just this past July in Spain. The “slapstick” stuff never happened, though — whew!
Oh, goodness! This was hilarious. One thing… It seems your narrator would tell this story in a tone that wavered between dry and dramatic, humorous and regretful. I’m not sure the exclamation points worked. I LOVED the words, though!
Hmm. Not so bad a thought, really. I’ll look it over later. Thanks for your input and glad you enjoyed it.
hahaha this is hilarious… or horrifying.. really can’t decide which.. haha really good ^^
Has this happened to you or any of your friends? 😀
i think we all had our fair share of uh-oh moments ^^ lol
Very very funny…! Real laugh at that….whichever parts actually happened or were dreamt!
I can see I need to be careful when encountering Spaniards in France! Very funny! I like the way you take inspiration from real life events.
It’s actually from a joke told to me by a Puerto Rican girl I worked with. As I wrote, I felt like I was recycling it.
Very very funny. But at least he got to see the goodies 🙂
Funny story.
I’m guessing that would be the end of the evening ,,, even if it wasn’t in real life. Still, a gentleman never tells.
No, no such embarrassing thing like that happened. I took what was, in reality, a very wonderful evening and … just knocked it to pieces.
A gentleman never tells … but he sure likes WRITING about it! 😀
Amusing tale, well told.
Dear Kent,
Nice slapstick. Very believable.
Shalom,
Rochelle
The sun smiles, the river laughs … 😀
what a tragic end to a nice evening! hope the real Alicia doesn’t read it though..
She doesn’t speak English very well. She speaks to me in Spanish … which I happen to speak fluently.
OK, maybe fairly fluently. 😉
Alicia sounds so lovely. Ah when the plans fall apart we can have some uncomfortable moments.
Yes, she really IS in real life. I think if she were on Mister Bean, THIS would be a good role for her to play. She’s a heck of an actress.
Nice! I love multilingual puns and mistranslations like that.
Dave, I take that as the ultima thule in praise (what that means, I don’t know, but it sounded so good …) Hee hee!
Very funny – and educational too! Makes me glad I’m not single 🙂
Glad you liked it! Thanks!
I’ll watch out for those pesky pigeons next time I’m in Barcelona! Good story.
They truly are all over the place in the square.
I love it! The Spanish/French play on words is so creative. Great way to work it into the prompt as well!
Thanks! And here Rochelle thought nobody would get it …!!
I smiled on this one. Lots of fun.
Thanks, Bill! Mucho apreciado.
THAT’S funny!
I don’t see why you wouldn’t be fond of lilies even if the slapsticky part did happen! The closest I’ll get to a hot actress/model is Barbie.
Sorry about that, Perry. You’re really missing out, man …! 😀
Oh, once again, I really loved your story!!! Great pay-off!
